DESTROYING YOUR ALABASTER BOX

Mark 14:3—9

Intro :

I already used this text several months ago but I was challenge how this woman being lifted by our lord Jesus Christ. Lets study in a different way how this woman will encourage us.

þ Alabaster Box – It is like a marble vessel made from middle east without a handle. Usually use for precious  element like perfume.

þ Spikenard ointment – or nard), costly perfume produced from a plant native to the mountains of n. India; used by the ancients in baths and at feasts; ointment of spikenard mentioned in Bible was probably an oil or fat scented with the perfume; in the U.S. an herb (Aralia racemosa) with spicy aromatic roots is called American spikenard precious ointment which amounted 300 pence or 510 dollar today or 20,910pesos

POINTS :

1. DESTROY  YOUR ALABASTER BOX ( DESTROY YOUR OWN RIGHTEOUSNESS ) – v. 3

þ Destroy your own righteousness to God and give it to the Lord

þ Do you give it totally to Christ or you holding some inside you. Your keeping some of your sins. Or unrighteousness. You should not be captain of your soul. Give it to Christ. Submit yourself to God.

þ  Jas 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

þ For Young people -  1Pe 5:5 ¶ Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

2. POUR IT OUT (USE IT FOR THE GLORY OF GOD ) – V.3

þ The sinner woman put the ointment on his hair and wash on the feet of our Lord. She uses herself toward God.

þ When we receive our Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior that’s the time we are accountable to God in our doing. We must walk according to walk of Christ (Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.)

3. CHRIST WILL VINDICATE YOU—

þ vindicate = to free from blame or guilt

þ Christ was so happy when the woman do that thing to Him. Lets see how God vindicate

 A. Christ rebuke first Judas (v. 6, Let her alone, why trouble ye the woman?) God will take care of you in financial Mal 3:11 And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts. In Heb 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

B.  Christ justify the action of the woman ( v. 6 Next he justifies the action, She hath wrought a good work, because it flowed from a principle of love to Christ. In Ro 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith…Ro 5:1 ¶ Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

C . Christ will reason of her action, She did it for my burial. Can Christ reason for us for her doing. Example of this is the story of Job. How God reason for Job.

D . Our Saviour doth not only justify and defend the action of this poor woman, but magnifies and extols it; declaring that she should be rewarded for it with an honourable memorial in all ages of the church: Whensoever this gospel is preached, this shall be spoken of as a memorial of her….do you wish to be known as a good follower of Christ or not.

CONCLUSION :

Many of us do not recognized how God dwell in our lives they only say that they are saved but not making it as a saved one. Do you wish to be like the woman that Christ give credit because of his doing. Give your heart to God not to yourself.
