WILL YE ALSO GO AWAY?

- John 6:48- 71

INTRODUCTION :

John 6:48- 71 is the account where Jesus Christ said to his disciples that he is the bread of life. By drinking his blood and eating his flesh comes eternal life. These words were taken literally by his disciples and were offended. The true meaning behind Christ’s words was He’s going to die at the cross for man’s sins and by him, we could beget eternal life [Luke 18:31-34].

Truly, we are blessed because it is much easier for us to understand the word of God because it was written and we have the Holy Spirit in us.

During the earthly ministry of Christ, it is hard for them to understand His words because they are not fully grown in knowledge, wisdom and faith in the word of God though they were able to be with the Lord and have seen a lot of miracles.

The question "Will ye also go away” was addressed to the 12 disciples when the 70 others left Christ [Luke 10:17, John 6:67].

Why did the 70 disciples left?

1. They want to make the instruction easy. They don’t want to follow what have been said instantly. [Matthew 8:18-22, Luke 9:57-62]

þ  We, Christians tend to make alibis before following what the word of God has said to us.

þ Sometimes, we would lay up conditions before obeying God.

þ God wants us to obey first, having faith in Him then we will be able to see his power and provision.

2. They may have a strong desire to obey and follow Christ but they don’t want lasting problems.

þ We should have the heart of dedication and commitment in our service to God for it determines what we are treasuring. [Matthew 6:21]

3. They want to experience only the pleasure of serving extraordinary outcomes of their doing, not taking the heavy part of the burden.

þ In the ministry, expect the unexpected. We may encounter different things that ranges from worst to best. Through good or bad times, we must be consistent in our service.

Conclusion:

Avoid expecting that all things will run smoothly but always be prepared to expect the unexpected. Do not excuse yourself from every hard task. Though the path seems blurred, continue to obey and trust the Lord. God will never command us a thing if it’s end is danger.
