THE FOUR IMPORTANT REMINDERS OF THE BIBLE TO EVERY BELIEVER AS A GUIDE AND WARNING

Luke 22:19-34

INTRODUCTION

þ Guides and warnings are very much important in a person’s life. Following or giving attention to these things will lead us to safety or a state in which we are safe.

þ The word of God contains guidance [Psalms 119:105] and warnings.

Things we should avoid in our Christian life:

1. THE BETRAYAL [Judas as an example]-Luke 22:19-23

þ Jesus was having His last Supper with His disciples. He mentioned to them that in the midst of them a person will betray Him. In which it was Judas that was used by Satan as an instrument for Christ to be caught, punished, and died upon the cross.

þ Even though Judas was with the Lord [able to see wonders and miracles done by Jesus Christ], he betrayed him by leading the soldiers to where he was staying and was paid by 30 pieces of silver [Matthew 27:3]. His heart was not really on the ministry but gave more value on money. He thought that the money he has will give him happiness but he was wrong about the idea and ended up hanging himself to death.

þ God discourages us to betray him just because of material things and possessions here in this world. Unable to act according to God’s will is leading us to sin against him and states an example written in 1 Timothy 6:10, "For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through many sorrow.” The word "luho” [being spendthrift or wastrel] is mismanagement of God’s provision and on the other hand being "kuripot” [thrifty or stingy] is an act of hoarding God’s provision [Luke 12:16-20].

þ We are but a steward of all the things that we see and we own nothing for it is God’s. He wants us to be responsible in handling the things he entitled us to hold. If we’re able to do what He willed us to do He will trust us with much bigger things.

þ Let’s examine ourselves if we are still in the faith. For where your treasure is, there will be your heart also [Matthew 6:19].

2. THE DENIAL [Peter as an example]- Luke 22:31-34

þ Peter, a disciple of Jesus Christ, denied him three times before the cock crow that day and was said by Jesus himself before he has done it. He thought that the thing that he and the other disciples together with Jesus have is a movement that is not only on the spiritual but also on the political aspect. He thought that their present situation is the prophecy that was written in the book of Isaiah 9:6, 7. We will be committing the same mistake, the denial if we’re going to do things apart from the will of God which is written in His words.

þ Believer of Christ will all start as a babe in faith. There maybe times that we fail in our Christian life because we are young in this aspect but with the help of God and our total dependence on His will we will grow and be matured. We just have to bear in mind that being a Christian, it has stages to be taken to be strong in faith.

Things we should do or expect in our Christian life:

1. SERVICE- Luke 22:24-27

þ The word of God made a point that the one who serves [not the one who’s been served] is much greater. Our service before God is much important in the present times. Jesus himself set an example when He was alive and during His earthly ministry.  During His service He was able to experience thirst, tiredness, persecutions, hardships and many likes. He admonishes us to do much more greater things for the ministry and for His glory. The best service that we could render is winning souls.

2. REWARD- Luke 22:28-30

þ God promises not only heaven to look forward to but some rewards as we do our service unto Him [Luke 18:28-30]. We should not grow weary in our service to our Lord and Saviour especially in soul-winning.

Conclusion:

After our Salvation experience Service is to be expected. When he has given us the opportunity to serve Him grab it and do the best that we can.

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works lest any man should boast.”- Ephesians 2:8,9
